Since 1981, we
have shared our home with Vizslas. We currently have five: Misty, Storm,
Cappy, Boo and Foxy. Carl and I are members of the Vizsla Club of America.
Our goal is to present to the Vizsla world dogs that are sound in conformation
and temperament as well as being dedicated field companions. This is
a bit of our Vizsla story ...
In 1981, my husband and I were looking for a dog that would be good
for our sons, Ed and James. We had a little mutt by the name of Moe
who was 13 years old and even though Moe tried his hardest, it was hard
for him to keep up with two growing boys. Our search started with an
AKC book on breeds and with the guidance of our vet, we narrowed our
search to the sporting breeds. The description of the Vizsla fit what
we were looking for in a breed, loving, active, short-haired and intelligent.
We went to the International Kennel Club show in Chicago to meet Vizslas
and their breeders first hand and we were hooked.
Baro Arany Lang (Baron) joined our family in November of 1981 when he
was 5 months old. His tail had been cropped as a Weim but showing was
not in the picture at that time in our lives. Favorite memories of Baron
include watching him learn to retrieve a ball. Even though Moe was older,
he was still faster than the pup and had a few tricks left in him. We
would sit in the living room and throw a ball into the dining room for
the dogs to fetch. Moe would be the first to the ball with Baron close
on his tail. Moe would then bring the ball back to us on three legs
with young Baron holding Moe's hind leg in his mouth following behind.
If Baron couldn't beat Moe to the ball, he would just retrieve Moe instead.
Carl joined our family in 1986. He stepped into a household complete
with two teenage boys and a Vizsla. Thank heavens that he is a patient
person who loves animals.
When we lost Baron, we took a year off from Vizslas. Mira, an Irish
Wolfhound, joined our family. She was a real sweetheart who lived to
be 13 years old but she wasn't a Vizsla. Into our family came Sunnyside's
Keystone Koppers to fill the Vizsla void. It was through Koppers that
we were introduced to performance events. He hunted with Carl and I
showed him once or twice but he had a tad too much white on his chest.
Multiple Vizsla syndrome struck and then there was Misty (CH. Vizion's
Mist over Sunnyside). A year later, Dawn (Ch. Vizion's Dawn at Sunnyside)
joined the family and a year after that came Storm (Ch. Vizion's Storm
on Sunnyside). Filling out our Vizsla family at this time are Cappy
(Multiple BISS Ch. Sunnyside's Harbor Master) and Sunnyside's Foxy First
Mate.
The boys are grown and married now. We have a granddaughter, Kylie,
and another grandchild due this fall. Carl has been retired for 6 years
now due to Multiple Sclerosis and I work for a local company as their
bookkeeper. One thing that never changes is our love for the Vizsla
breed and our many Vizsla friends and family.
